AI in Education: Ethics, Reflection, and Quality Assurance

My research group focuses on the role of artificial intelligence in educational contexts – both as a subject of critical ethical reflection in the classroom and as a tool for teaching and learning. We examine these developments through societal, educational policy, and pedagogical lenses.

Our current activities include:

  • Workshops for school classes, for example as part of our “Predicted Futures” project, funded in 2024–2025 by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture (zukunft.niedersachsen program).

  • Educational materials (Open Educational Resources) designed to support classroom discussions on AI technologies and their societal implications – see https://outreachlab.org.

  • Professional development for teachers on the societal dimensions of AI and AI literacy, offered by Prof. Rainer Mühlhoff in various German federal states.

  • Systematic evaluation of AI tools for educators, particularly AI tools for feedback and assessment. See for example our findings on the Fobizz AI grading assistant.
